The Cool Kids (Ride Bikes)

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Biking may be fun, but as far as mainstream American culture is concerned, it’s still not as cool as driving. The current economy has been changing that picture, but when someone switches from driving to riding for financial reasons it’s about need not want. (Even if they do find themselves enjoying the change after they’ve made it.) So, what non-financial incentive would make people want to try cycling?

How about if the cool kids were doing it.

Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Patrick Dempsey, Angelina Jolie and other celebs appear in this Treehugger slideshow riding their bikes around town. They may not make biking cooler (because biking is just plain cool) but if their public pedal-pushing encourages a few more people to get on their bikes, it’s a step in the right direction.

What would make these celebrity bike photos even cooler? Bike helmets. All the truly cool kids wear ‘em.
