the ongoing story of bike parking & parking meters

Have you noticed how great the weather is this week?  You must be out riding & hoofing it through Oaktown.  Ah, but if you bike, where’s that meter you used to lock up to?

Gone. With only a fraction of the spaces replaced.

Tuesday March 11 there’s an update on the parking kiosks and a piece on bike parking replacement with real locks at Finance & Management committee requested by Ignacio De La Fuente.  You can take a look at the report below (or not), and then email the Mayor, your Council member, and the City Administrator to tell them about

  1. your experience trying to find something to lock up to
  2. that we need at least $75,000 for additional parking racks
  3. more staff to help get this and other high priority projects DONE

Enjoy the great weather - get out.

  1. Nancy Nadel v. Sean Sullivan: LWV Voter Forum recap | A Better Oakland Says:

[…] V: Winner: Sean Sullivan. Nancy Nadel did an excellent job of telling us what she does and what she apparently plans on continuing to do: talk. Promoting bike lanes, introducing the importance of bicycling - these are not going to make bicycling easier. Why has Nadel, if she cares so much about bicycling, made no attempt to address the bike parking shortage created by the Pay and Display parking meters? We can’t implement the Bicycle Master Plan because we don’t yet have a bicycle engineer on staff. People already know that bicycling is good for the environment - now we need to do something about it. […]

  2. Nancy Nadel needs to go. Now. | A Better Oakland Says:

[…] I could go on and on and on. She’s nowhere on food security and food access. She does nothing for bicycle, transit, and pedestrian improvements. Restoring the Broadway Shopper Shuttle is part of her platform now, but it got cancelled five years ago on her watch! Where’s she been since then? One local activist recently told me he was reluctant to criticize Nadel’s newfound advocacy for transit issues, saying “Yeah, she’s concerned now that she’s running for re-election. Whatever. I’ll take what I can get.” Fair enough. But where’s she been for the last four years? And where will she be once she doesn’t have to worry about getting votes? She chairs Public Works, so you’d she’d be helping with the bike parking problem, but bicycle advocates had to turn to Finance and Management and Ignacio De La Fuente for help! […]
